[Duluth, MN] This evening, the Duluth Fire Department responded to the report of fire in a building at the listed location with flames showing. Units arrived to find a small fire in a vacant space on the second floor. The building is condemned and should normally be unoccupied.
Crews quickly began a fire attack while other crews began a search of the building. The fire was quickly contained, and a search of the building did not find anyone inside. Duluth Fire spoke with Duluth Police who stated that a female had left the building and had been treated and transported to a local hospital by Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service. There are no further details on her condition.
The cause of the fire was ruled accidental by a person squatting in the building. The structure is the Esmond building, also known formerly as the Seaway Hotel. It is slated to be torn down in the near future. The building was secured by fire units before leaving the scene.
Any inquiries can be directed to the Duluth Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office.
Fire companies from Downtown, Lincoln Park, Spirit Valley and Miller Hill responded to the scene. Duluth Police were also on scene and assisted in getting the fire victim medical attention.
