Red Lobster closed over lunch following CO2 Leak

[Duluth, MN] Duluth’s Red Lobster has now reopened following a carbon dioxide leak over the lunch hour today. Duluth Fire Department crews were dispatched to Red Lobster located at 301 South Lake Avenue just before noon. Thanks to the quick thinking of the restaurant manager, she shut off the carbon dioxide cylinder and evacuated the restaurant before crews arrived on scene.

Duluth Fire crews on arrival evaluated carbon dioxide levels through oxygen displacement. Crews then shut off the HVAC to the restaurant, and the portion of that building was ventilated. Carbon dioxide levels were never immediately dangerous for human life.

One staff member went to the doctor after having headache-like symptoms to be checked as a precaution. The Fire Department does not know the condition of that employee. No other person or firefighter was injured or had carbon dioxide symptoms.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., the Duluth Fire Department heard from the restaurant manager saying they had reopened for business after clearing the scene with repair technicians who deemed the space safe for normal operations.
