Duluth Firefighters 101 to host 9/11 remembrance stair climb

[Duluth, MN] The Duluth Firefighters 101 will host a September 11 stair climbing event in AMSOIL Arena tomorrow, at 8:46 a.m. Eight firefighters from the Duluth Fire Department and members from the Cloquet Fire Departments will participate in the climb following a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m.

The firefighters will pay tribute to FDNY firefighters by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. The firefighters will climb the stairs at AMSOIL Arena at the DECC to remember the 343 firefighters that lost their fight that day while saving others.  Climbers are expected to take 20 – 40 minutes to complete the 2,200-step climb. Firefighters will be fully dressed in response gear just as those who responded on 9/11/2001.

“For 20 years, we have promised to never forget - to never forget the lives lost - to never forget the 343 firefighters that gave everything,” Duluth firefighter Andrew Olson said. “As we don our gear and climb, we’ll have an opportunity to reflect on what it means to be firefighters and to serve our communities. We encourage the public to look back on that day and remember we’re stronger when we come together.”

The Duluth Fire Department would like to thank the DECC for hosting the event.
