Wheeler Athletic Complex Sport Court improvements begin today, September 1

[Duluth, MN] Improvements to Wheeler Athletic Complex sport court will begin today, September 1, 2021. The scope of work includes rebuilding the sport court with a new asphalt surface, acrylic coating, fencing, nets, and new sidewalk. When complete, the sport court area will have a new basketball court, tennis courts that will be striped for pickleball, as well as dedicated pickleball courts. During construction, all other activities at Wheeler Athletic Complex will remain open to the public.  The improvements are expected to be complete in approximately nine weeks.

The project improvements were identified in the West Duluth Sports Corridor Mini-Master Plan, which was adopted in August of 2015. Other Wheeler Athletic Complex improvements identified in the Mini-Master Plan include baseball field improvements, dugout improvements, restroom renovations, new horseshoe pits, and sand volleyball upgrades have all been completed.

Funding for this project was made possible by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Recreation Program, half and half tourism tax funds, and the Park Fund.
