SUBJECT: Warning of Dangerous Swimming Conditions
BY: Kate Van Daele, Public Information Officer

NATURE OF INCIDENT: Red Flag Beaches
CASE NO.:
INCIDENT DATE: 5/27/2021
INCIDENT TIME: 1:40 p.m.
INCIDENT LOCATION: Park Point Beaches

Due to a High Risk of Rip Currents today, the Duluth Fire Department is issuing a warning of dangerous swimming conditions for Park Point beaches effective immediately and continuing until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.

This warning means that wind and wave conditions can support strong rip currents. Rip currents will most likely develop randomly along the entire Park Point beach front. These rip currents will form without warning and are life-threatening to anyone entering the water.

There are no lifeguards at Park Point today, and the red flags flying at locations along the beach indicate dangerous swimming conditions. Stay out of the water regardless of your swimming experience.

Flag locations are: South Pier, 12th St beach, Lafayette Square, and Park Point beach. You will be notified if swimming conditions improve before this warning expires.

More information on conditions and rip currents can be found by visiting the Park Point Beach website at www.parkpointbeach.org
