[Duluth, MN] At 7;57 p.m. this evening, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 931 E 3rd Street. Upon arrival at the two-story six-plex, crews found a fire in a bathroom vent fan in a second floor apartment. Crews began fire attack and the fire was quickly knocked down. The ceiling was pulled to check for attic extension. No fire was found in the cockloft.

The tenants had evacuated the apartment prior to our arrival. Crews were able to rescue a small dog from the apartment. There were no injuries to tenants or the dog.

Damage was limited to one apartment, resulting in smoke and water damage. Tenants were unable to remain in the apartment. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The fire has been ruled to be accidental, electric. Damage estimates are $10,000 for room and content. Crews from Headquarters, U.M.D, and Lincoln Park Stations responded to this fire and remained on scene for just under an hour.
