INCIDENT TIME: 17:45PM
INCIDENT LOCATION: 3722 E 4 St

At 7:45 PM this evening, the Duluth Fire Department responded to 3722 E 4 St for a house fire. Thick black smoke was found on the second floor of the two story home. The home owner was outside and said that he had arrived home to discover the smoke and a small fire at the top of the stairs. He used a portable extinguisher to knock down the fire and then reported the fire.

As the smoke was removed, the cause of the fire was found to be a pedestal electric fan The motor apparently malfunctioned and the plastic components caught fire and ignited the carpeting below.

The fire damage was limited but the smoke left a sooty residue throughout the second floor. Contents in this area will have to be replaced. Total damage is estimated at $20,000.
