INCIDENT LOCATION: 2228 W 22nd St.
Late this morning, the Duluth Fire Department was called for the report of a couch on fire in a private residence. On arrival, crews found a small fire in the living room.
The fire was quickly knocked down and fire damage was limited to the living room. There was extensive smoke damage throughout the home.
Initial reports included the concern that there was a pet trapped within the home. Primary and secondary searches did not find any persons or pets inside. It was later confirmed that the pet did self evacuate and was reported safe.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Any inquiries beyond this release should be directed to the Duluth Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office. Damage to the home and contents is estimated to be $20,000.
Fire companies from Lincoln Park, Downtown and Spirit Valley responded to the incident. The Duluth Police Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service were also on site to assist.
