NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure fire
CASE NO.: 21-116
INCIDENT DATE: 1/4/2021
INCIDENT TIME: 11:16 a.m.
INCIDENT LOCATION: 1927 West 3rd St

At 11:16 a.m. the Duluth Fire Department received a call for a structure fire at 1927 West 3rd Street. When crews arrived on scene, they saw smoke exiting the building from the second floor of a two-story abandoned apartment building.

Fire crews had to remove security boards on the building to gain entry for fire attack. Crews conducted primary and secondary searches that confirmed the building was void of any occupants. A large diameter handline was used to knock down the main body of fire. Overhaul of the building was conducted and no fire extension was found.

The fire has been ruled accidental in nature, with personal heating being the cause. No firefighters were injured. Initial damage estimates are $30,000 to the structure. Fire crews from Headquarters, Lincoln Park, and Spirit Valley responded. The Duluth Police Department provided support.
