[Duluth, MN] At 6:08 p.m. the Duluth Fire Department received a call for a structure fire at 1717 East 1st Street. When crews first arrived on scene, they saw smoke both inside and outside of the seven-unit apartment building. Residents reported that one of the units was full of smoke. All residents made it outside without injury.
Fire crews put out a fire from the outside electrical box, in addition to several hot spots within the building. Other crews turned off the power, provided water supply from a nearby hydrant, and checked for fire spread.
The fire has been ruled accidental and electrical in nature. No firefighters were injured. Initial damage estimates are $10,000 to the structure and $500 in contents. All residents have been relocated for the night by the building’s property management company. Fire crews from Headquarters, Lakeside, UMD, and Woodland responded. Minnesota Power and the Duluth Police Department provided support.
