This evening, the Duluth Fire Department responded for the report of alarms going off and smoke showing from a dorm room at the listed address. Crews arrived on scene to find a small fire resulting from a refrigerator malfunction. The fire was contained by the building's sprinkler system and it was extinguished by firefighters.

The dorm room was not occupied at the time, and no persons are without shelter as a result. The water from the sprinkler caused damage to rooms adjacent to the fire, but the rooms were habitable shortly after cleanup began.

There were no injuries to report. Damages are superficial and estimated at $2500 for the room and contents. There was no structural damage to report. UMD maintenance was on site and began restoration duties.

Fire companies from UMD, Lakeside, Woodland and Downtown responded to the call.
