NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure fire
CASE NO.: 20-7035
INCIDENT DATE: 7/7/2020
INCIDENT TIME: 21:39
INCIDENT LOCATION: 430 N 16th Ave E

At 21:39 tonight, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 430 N 16th Ave E. We received a report from DPD of fire in the attic with flames coming through the roof of the two-story single family home. Upon arrival, crews met the homeowners outside of the residence. The homeowners provided information to the easiest attic access. A hand line was advanced to the attic where crews made a quick knockdown of the attic fire. Primary and secondary searches confirmed all occupants had exited the house prior to our arrival.

Initial damage estimates were determined to be $40,000 for room and contents. The homeowners were unable to remain at the house due to extensive water damage. The Duluth Fire Marshal's office investigated the fire and confirmed the cause as an overloaded electrical circuit. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

Fire companies from Headquarters Station, Lakeside, Woodland and U.M.D. Stations responded to this incident. We were assisted by Duluth Police Department and remained on scene for just over an hour.
