SUBJECT: Structure fire
BY: Assistant Chief Brent Consie
NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure fire
CASE NO.: 20-006614
INCIDENT DATE: 6/28/2020
INCIDENT TIME: 9:26 PM
INCIDENT LOCATION: 2400 London Rd
At 9:26 PM, the Duluth Fire Department was called for the report of a fire alarm sounding. While responding to the incident, a manager on site reported that there was smoke coming from one of the guest rooms in the building.
Fire units arrived on scene to find fire alarms sounding and guests evacuating the building. A rapid assessment revealed a small fire in an unoccupied guest room on the lowest level. The room was located on the east side of the complex. Other fire companies were assigned to ensure the entire wing of the building was evacuated.
The source of the fire appeared to be coming from an electric thermostat. The fire was quickly extinguished and fire damage was limited to the room of origin. Crews vented the building of heat and smoke, and guests were allowed back inside. There were no injuries to report.
Damages are estimated to be $20,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Any inquiries related to this incident may be directed to the Duluth Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office.
Seven Fire Companies from Duluth's UMD, Lakeside, Woodland and Downtown fire stations responded to this incident.
