City asks residents for help to Pack out Trash at City Parks and Beaches
[Duluth, MN] The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation division is asking the public to pack out any trash that they may bring into Duluth parks and beaches. With a warm weekend on the horizon, there is a growing concern that trash and recycling receptacles will be overwhelmed before they can be emptied (see attached photo of the Rose Garden trash cans).
Due to limited staffing due to City layoffs and a hiring freeze, Parks Maintenance is not able to service garbage cans as frequently as they have in the past. Trash receptacles will be serviced on Fridays and Mondays, and will not be serviced over the weekend and during the week.
Parks and Recreation staff are asking for the publics support in cleaning up after themselves, and to collect any trash left behind by other visitors by throwing them away in their own trash cans. Park and beach visitors should “pack out” what they “pack in”, especially if cans are already full.
Staff have posted Pack it in and Pack it Out signs at the following locations:
- Bayfront Festival Park
- Enger Park
- Lief Erikson Park
- Lester Park
- Park Point Beach House
- 12th Street Beach
- Rose Garden
