NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure fire
CASE NO.: 20-05382
INCIDENT DATE: 5/28/2020
INCIDENT TIME: 2:37 PM
INCIDENT LOCATION: 101 S 64th Ave W

At 2:37 this afternoon, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of smoke and flames at the back of a residence in the area. Units arriving on scene found heavy exterior flame on the home located at 101 S 64th Ave West. Due to high winds, the flames spread to and threatened the residence adjacent to the house on fire. The address of that building is 105 S. 64th Ave W.

Units quickly extinguished the flames while other units searched both buildings for occupants. No residents were home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

Damages to the fire building are limited to the exterior cladding, the soffit area and some limited interior damage related to fire spread and fire suppression efforts. Damages are estimated at $20,000 for the structure.

The residence located at 105 S. 64th Ave W. sustained damage to the exterior aluminum cladding and aluminum gutters. Damages to this building are estimated at $3,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. All inquiries for this incident should be directed to the Duluth Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office.

Fire companies from Spirit Valley, Gary, Lincoln Park and Downtown stations responded to the incident. Minnesota power, Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service and the Duluth Police Department were also on scene to offer assistance.
