City to host Virtual Meeting on new Keene Creek Playground design

[Duluth, MN] The City of Duluth’s Parks and Recreation division will host a virtual public meeting on June 4, to review the proposed new design of Keene Creek Park playground.  The existing playground has passed its useful lifespan and does not meet accessible surface guidelines. The proposed model incorporates new inclusive play elements, which will allow everyone, regardless of ability, the opportunity to play. The meeting is open to all age groups. If you have an avid playground user in your household, please attend together.

Thursday, June 4, 2020, at 5:00 p.m.

To attend the virtual meeting, visit http://www.duluthmn.gov/live-meeting.

The playground is one element of a larger 2020 Improvement Plan for the park.  Other improvements include accessibility upgrades, dog park improvements, trail resurfacing and realigning, and the addition of a new bicycle pump track. The City is proceeding with these improvements at Keene Creek Park thanks to the support of federal grant funds and ½ and ½ Tourism Tax funds, as part of the larger St. Louis River Corridor Initiative.

In 2016, the City Council approved the Keene Creek Park Mini-Master Plan, which outlines both short-term and long-term improvements to the park and acts as a guiding document for both the City and community partners. More information about the Plan can be found on the City of Duluth Parks website: https://duluthmn.gov/parks/parksplanning/st-louis-river-corridor/keene-creek-park.
