NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure fire
CASE NO.: 20-02388
INCIDENT DATE: 3/4/2020
INCIDENT TIME: 8:03 PM
INCIDENT LOCATION: 1382 Highland Village Drive

At 8:03 this evening, the Duluth Fire Department responded to the report of a possible garage fire. Units arriving on scene found a detached, 24 unit garage with heavy smoke showing.

Initial Fire Department efforts were to locate the source of the fire and quickly extinguish it. When attempting to locate the fire, many of the garage doors had to be forced open by the Fire Department.

Fire damage was confined to two garage units. Fire spread from the original unit to an adjacent unit sharing a party wall.

Damages to contents include an automobile in the fire unit, and some house wares in the adjacent unit. Damage to the building included fire damage to structural components in the fire unit and damage to a number of aluminum garage doors by the Fire Department in an effort to locate the source of fire.

Loss estimates for the garage are estimated to be $60,000 and smoke and fire damage to contents are estimated to be $30,000. Units not directly affected by fire remain in use and electrical service is restored.

There were no injuries to report. The garage is detached from living units and not occupied.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Any questions associated with this incident should be directed to the Duluth Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office.

Fire companies from Miller Hill, Headquarters, UMD and Woodland stations responded to this incident.
