At 5:25 PM this evening, the Duluth Fire Department responded to the Number Two Alley in the East 300 Block for the report of a structure fire.

Units arriving found a two-level, 1500 square foot garage heavily involved in flames. There was no immediate life hazard. Crews on scene operated defensively, guarding all exposed buildings from any damage and extinguished the fire.

Limitations included burning and arcing power lines in the alley. Minnesota Power was summoned to shut off electricity to the block aiding firefighters in their efforts.

After the fire was put out, Minnesota Power began working on restoring electric service to residents living on the East 300 Block of Second Street.

Subsequently, an office building adjacent to the fire building reported some smoke inside as a result of the fire. Crews ensured the building was not affected and worked to remove the smoke.

There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation. For any questions, please contact the Duluth Fire Marshal's Office or the Duluth Public Information Officer at the number listed above.
