BY: Assistant Chief Brent Consie
NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure fire
CASE NO.:
INCIDENT DATE: 11/3/2019
INCIDENT TIME: 12:23
INCIDENT LOCATION: 511 Elk St.
On Sunday, November 3rd at 12:23 PM, The Duluth Fire Department responded for the report of a structure fire. Initial reports were of light black smoke coming from a two-story, single family dwelling.
The first Duluth Fire Company arriving on scene reported light smoke with blackened windows. Extra caution was taken in ventilating the building of heat prior to fire attack to prevent rapid fire spread. The fire was quickly knocked down while building searches confirmed all persons and animals were outside and accounted for.
There were no injuries. Damage to the interior of the house was extensive.
Supplying water to the fire scene was a challenge due to the distance of the nearest fire hydrant. As a precautionary measure, Duluth Fire called the Duluth Air National Guard Fire Department to assist in providing water supply with a water tanker truck.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Any inquiry regarding this incident should be directed to the Duluth Fire Marshal's Office.
Duluth Fire companies from Woodland, Lakeside, UMD, Headquarters, Miller Hill and Spirit Valley responded to this incident. The Duluth Air National Guard Fire Department, Duluth Police Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service also responded to support fire operations.
Damages from fire are estimated at $200,000.
