AT 23:26 PM on Friday October 11th, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 237 W Kent Rd.
The first arriving company received a report of a possibly extinguished bathroom fire. Upon entering the bathroom of a two-story single family house, crews found the fire had extended into the attic space. A handline was deployed for for fire attack as the interior wall was opened up. Fire was found underneath the eaves on the exterior as well. The fire was extinguished quickly and crews began checking for additional fire extension. DFD personnel remained on scene for more than an hour checking void spaces.
The homeowner and one roommate were home at the time of the fire and were able to evacuate prior to our arrival. Initial damage estimates are $20,000. The homeowner was able to remain in the residence. The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical problem with a ceiling fan.
Fire companies from Headquarters Station, U.M.D., Woodland and Lakeside Stations responded to the call. U.M.D. Police department was also on scene to assist. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
