NATURE OF INCIDENT: House fire
CASE NO.: 10003625
INCIDENT DATE: 6/3/2010
INCIDENT TIME: 11:45 PM
INCIDENT LOCATION: 6309 Hoghland St

At 11:45 PM, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a house fire at 6309 Highland St. Firefighters found a large fire involving the back half of the home. All of the windows in this area had already broken from the heat. This allowed the fire to burn vigorously. The electric powerlines supplying the building were damaged from the flames and arced overhead until they melted apart. The interior stairway leading to the storage attic were completely burned away. Firefighters used ladders in both the front and back to enter through  attic windows to access burning areas and to remove heat.

The owner was home alone with his dog when he noticed smoke. He was able to escape unharmed but his dog remained inside. Fortunately, firefighters found the dog within minutes of arrival and removed him without injury.

Damage to the structure and contents may exceed $100,000.

The cause has yet to be determined. The Fire Marshall's office is investigating
