Quarry Park Ribbon Cutting and Opening Celebration to be held on August 2, 2019
[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation Division invites the public to celebrate improvements made to Quarry Park with a ribbon-cutting on Friday, August 2 from 4-6 p.m. Free outdoor family activities at the park will follow the ceremony.
Quarry Park is part of the larger St. Louis River Corridor Initiative that is eligible for half and half tourism tax funding. Park improvements were selected and designed based on the 2016 Mini-Master Plan and subsequent consultation with park partners.
Completed projects within the park include: construction of a nine-hole disc golf course with signage, a trail loop at the base of the quarry that is compliant with the American Disability Act, parking lot and access road improvements, and multi-use trails with a connection to Brewer Park. Cyclists of the Gitchee Gumee Shores (COGGS), Duluth Climbers Coalition, and the Lake Superior Disc Golf Community made the project possible through cash and in-kind donations.
Free activities at the event include:
- Bike Riding Portable Skills Area – Sponsored by COGGS. There are limited bikes available, please bring your own if possible.
- Slackline Climbing and Demonstrations – Sponsored by Duluth Climbers Coalition
- Portable Disc Golf Course & Instruction – Sponsored by Duluth Parks & Recreation
- Guided Disc Golf Course Tours & Demonstration – Sponsored by Lake Superior Disc Golf Community
Parking is available in the main parking lot off North 59th Avenue West.
