INCIDENT LOCATION: 214 N 28th Ave W
At 06:38 AM on Saturday June 15th, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 214 N 28th Ave W.
The first arriving company reported a working fire at the rear of a two-story duplex. One of the occupants was trapped inside and removed through a second floor window. Fire department members conducted primary searches and confirmed both units were cleared as the fire was brought under control. We were able to locate two unharmed cats. One was removed and the other was sheltered in place.
The removed occupant was evaluated by Mayo Clinic Ambulance and declined transport. None of the tenants was able to remain in their units due to smoke damage. There were no Fire Department injuries and one reported civilian needing to be evaluated.
Initial damages are estimated to be $30,000 for structure and contents. The Duluth Fire Marshal's office is currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire. Any further information will be provided by that office.
Fire companies from Headquarters Station, Lincoln Park,and Spirit Valley Station responded and remained on scene for 1.5 hours. Duluth Police and Mayo Ambulance were on scene to assist.
