Duluth Parks to Host "Clean and Green" Clean-up Projects Volunteers Needed

[Duluth, MN] – A winter storm can’t change the fact that spring is well on its way to the Northland.  Duluth Parks and Recreation is seeking community members to assist with "Clean and Green" projects in city parks and public spaces. It takes a collective effort to keep our abundant outdoor assets "clean and green" for all Duluthians!

Everyone is encouraged to help, whether you are an individual or part of a larger group or organization. The City will provide all necessary supplies to all registered Clean and Green projects and will also haul away the bags of collected garbage after the event!

Individuals and groups are encouraged to commit to picking up garbage at a location of their choice throughout the season by choosing to “adopt-a-spot.” One-time clean-up events are also welcomed and are a great group activity for friends, clubs, churches or businesses. If you don’t have a particular location in mind, one can be assigned depending on the group’s size, age, availability, and other preferences.

Opportunities to help out begin following snowmelt in early spring and will continue all the way through the season until snowfall in late fall.

Duluth Parks is partnering with various organizations to host community clean-up dates open to all.  Please register for these events and others at http://www.duluthmn.gov/parks/volunteer/volunteer-calendar/.

· Sunday, April 28th from 2pm – 5pm, Duluth Parks is partnering with the Duluth Experience for a clean-up of Skyline Parkway.

·  Saturday, May 4th from 2pm – 5pm, Duluth Parks is partnering with Twin Ports Trailer Trash, Twin Ports Bid, Duluth Climbers Coalition and the Duluth Skyline Preservation Alliance for a clean-up of Bardon’s Peak.

·  Saturday, May 11th from 9am-11:30am, Duluth Parks is partnering with Friends of the Lakewalk and Hoops Brewing for a clean-up along the Lakewalk.

Any group wanting to organize their own clean-up can register at: http://duluthmn.gov/parks/volunteer/clean-and-green-request-form/.

Questions can be directed to Cheryl Skafte, Volunteer Coordinator, at cskafte@duluthmn.gov or 218-730-4334.
