INCIDENT LOCATION: 415 W Redwing St

  The Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 415 W Redwing St. today at 9:50 am. Units arrived at a single family dwelling to find heavy black smoke throughout to house with fire in the basement. Fast action form the firefighters from station 11 in Woodland with assistance from units from the UMD area, lakeside, and downtown did contain the fire in the room of origin.  Fire fighters were able to advance through the attached garage directly to the fire for fast attack. 7 units in all responded with 21 personnel from the fire department with assistance from the Duluth police department for traffic control. 

  The building was occupied by the home owner and 2 young children that were able to exit the home without harm.

  The cause of the fire has not been determined but is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshall's office.

  The home did have working smoke detectors to alert the occupants. There were no injuries to the occupants or the fire fighters.

  There was extensive damage to the room of origin with smoke damage to the contents throughout the home.
