BY: Assistant Fire Chief, Clint Reff

NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire
CASE NO.: 18-12168
INCIDENT DATE: 11/28/2018
INCIDENT TIME: 12:24
INCIDENT LOCATION: 507 N 76th Ave W

At 12:24 hours today, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 507 N 76th Ave W. Upon arrival crews found smoke coming from the Delta side of a one and one half story house. The lone occupant had made it out of the house, but three dogs remained inside. Crews entered the attic level window for the primary search. They were able to retrieved two of the three dogs. The third dog was brought out through the front door. All three dogs received oxygen on scene. The dogs were transported by a Duluth Fire Department crew to the Superior Animal Hospital.

The fire was knocked down quickly. Secondary search confirmed no other occupants. Initial damages are estimated to be $10,000 for structure and contents. The fire was determined to be a space heater too close to combustibles.

The American Red Cross is assisting the residents, as they are unable to remain in the house. The three dogs are reported to be stable and have been released to their owners.

Fire companies from Headquarters Station, Gary, Lincoln Park, and Spirit Valley Station responded and remained on scene for just over an hour. Duluth Police and Gold Cross Ambulance  were on scene to assist with this fire.
