BY: Assistant Fire Chief, Clint Reff
NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire
CASE NO.: 18-11962
INCIDENT DATE: 11/22/2018
INCIDENT TIME: 21:13
INCIDENT LOCATION: 11 N 15th Ave E
At 21:13 hours tonight, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of a fully involved house fire. Upon arrival, crews found a two-story duplex with fire showing from the second floor Delta side of the structure. All occupants had evacuated both units prior to our arrival. Crews stretched lines to both the interior of the duplex as well as the exterior to protect a neighboring duplex. The main body of fire was knocked down and overhaul commenced. Crews completed primary and secondary searches to confirm all occupants were accounted for.
The occupants of both units were not able to return to their respective apartments. They are being assisted by the Duluth chapter of the American Red Cross with lodging arrangements. The neighboring duplex suffered some glass breakage due to the radiant heat from the fire. Initial damages are estimated to be $70,000 for structure and contents.
There were no civilian injuries, while a firefighter suffered a minor back strain. The Duluth Fire Marshal's office was on scene and is continuing to investigate origin and cause of this fire.
Fire companies from Headquarters Station, Lakeside, UMD, and Woodland Fire Station responded to this fire and remained on scene for over three hours. Duluth Police Department, Utilities, Minnesota Power, and Gold Cross Ambulance were on scene to render aid with this fire.
No further information is available at this point. Any additional statements will be given by the Duluth Fire Marshal's office.
