Quarry Park Access Improvements to Start September 17

(Park to temporarily close for at least one week)

[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation division is contracting with Stack Brothers to begin mobilization for parking lot and access road improvements at Quarry Park is starting September 17, 2018. Parking lot improvements off 59th Avenue West include re-sloping the limestone lot and installation of a storm water basin. The service road off 57th Avenue West will be regraded to allow service and emergency vehicle access and minimize erosion. This access road will be gated.

Residents can expect to see workers and construction equipment from the start of the project through late fall. There will be increased truck traffic in the construction area and increased noise as a result. The Quarry Park parking lot will be closed during construction and due to the extent of the work, there will be no public access to the park or trails for at least one week. Rain may delay the project by several days.

These improvements are components of the larger Quarry Park Mini-Master Plan approved by the Duluth City Council in April 2016. Residents can expect to see the following additional construction during the fall which may temporarily obstruct trail access for short periods:

-Duluth Climbers Coalition will construct an accessible limestone loop trail this month

-Cyclists of the Gitchee Gumee Shores will construct a multi-use trail connector to Brewer Park at the end of September

-The City of Duluth will install park signage and wayfinding this fall.
