Soil Boring to Take Place Week of July 23 on the Lakewalk Trail
[Duluth, MN] – The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation is informing the public of a temporary closure along the Lakewalk Trail during the week of July 23rd, between the Fitger’s Complex and Endion Station. The closure is necessary for the City’s contractor to conduct soil borings as part of the engineering and design work to help advance the repair and restoration of the storm damaged areas of the Lakewalk Trail. A crew will be trying to determine the depth of any subterranean obstructions such as bedrock.
A crew will station a large utility truck on the paved section of the Lakewalk Trail and plans to work during the day and then open the trail for full public access in the evening. The project will take several days and will target various areas within the project zone. Due to the use of large equipment, the Lakewalk traffic will be redirected into Lake Place Park from the west and also at the Portland Malt Shoppe stairs by the Fitger’s Complex. Barricades will be in place delineating the project area. The public is restricted from entering the project area as a safety precaution.
The Trail restoration is anticipated to start this fall but is dependent on a final design, construction plans and administrative approval processes.
