NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire
CASE NO.: 18-7129
INCIDENT DATE: 7/16/2018
INCIDENT TIME: 15:13
INCIDENT LOCATION: 435 N 79th Ave W

At 15:13 hours today, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of a fully involved garage fire. While en route, status was changed to "garage burned down and the house is now involved." Upon arrival, crews found a fully involved garage and a one and one half story house on fire. One resident had left the house prior to our arrival. There were no other parties and home during the fire. Crews stretched lines to both the house and garage and knocked down the main body of fire to both structures. Searches were completed, and it was confirmed all occupants were accounted for.

The homeowners are not able to remain in the house at this time and have made other arrangements for lodging. Some of the nearby garages suffered exterior damage due to the radiant heat. Initial damage estimates for this fire and exposures are $95,000 for the structures and $40,000 for contents.

There were no civilian injuries, while a firefighter suffered minor facial burns. The Duluth Fire Marshal's office was on scene and is continuing to investigate origin and cause of this fire.

Fire companies from Headquarters Station, Spirit Valley, Gary, and Lincoln Park Station responded to the fire. Duluth Police Department, Public Works, and Minnesota Power were on scene to render aid with this fire.

No further information is available at this point and any additional statement will be given by the Duluth Fire Marshal's office.
