NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire
CASE NO.: 18-006959
INCIDENT DATE: 7/12/2018
INCIDENT TIME: 05:34
INCIDENT LOCATION: 2415 Ensign Street

At 05:34 hours today, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 2415 Ensign Street. Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy fire around a cross cupola structure on the roof of the church. Large bore fire hose lines were immediately placed and used on the fire to quickly knock down the flames.

The fire extended into the roof area but was very quickly contained and stopped. Initial damage estimates are $50,000 for the structure and $25,000 for contents. There is water and smoke damage to the interior of the church but was kept to a minimum with salvage operations.

The Duluth Fire Marshal's office has investigated as to origin and cause of the fire and believe that a lightning strike to the church started the fire.

Fire companies from Duluth Heights Station , Lincoln Park Station , West Duluth Station and Headquarters Station responded to the fire. No injuries were reported at this fire and DFD was assisted by the DPD.

No further information is available at this point and any further statement will be released by the Duluth Fire Marshal’s office.
