Public Meeting June 28 to Discuss Lincoln Park Improvements

[Duluth, MN] - The U.S. Department of the Interior and the National Park Service announced last year that Duluth was awarded a $750,000 grant through the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) program for Lincoln Park Restoration. At the time, the City was proceeding with a more modest Phase I improvement project for the park that included the relocation of the playground with all new equipment, new site lighting, improvements to the pathway circulation and the reopening of the restrooms in the WPA pavilion. With the additional $750,000, the budget for Lincoln Park doubled allowing the Phase 1 project to grow in scope.

Additional funding allowed the City to identify outstanding maintenance and restoration needs at Lincoln Park. The infrastructure improvements aim to improve the user experience by addressing the following: equitable access to the park, safety, climate adaptation and resiliency, historic preservation, increased programming in the park and alignment with Smart Growth goals. Therefore, the City of Duluth Parks and Recreation division will be hosting a public meeting in Lincoln Park to provide an overview of the additional opportunities in light of the federal grant.

The public meeting will take place on:

Thursday, June 28th, 2018

6:30 – 7:30 pm

Lincoln Park Pavilion, 25th Avenue West & 5th Street

The solutions proposed are big picture ideas, honoring the needs and wants of the community voiced through the 2016 Mini-Master planning process and the 2017 Community Design Charrette. The public is encouraged to attend this public meeting where City Parks and Recreation staff will unveil an updated Lincoln Park Concept Plan and discuss the timeline for implementation.
