Celebration of New Superior Hiking Trail 3 mile Connector at Spirit Mountain Planned for June 1
[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation, the Superior Hiking Trail Association (SHTA), Spirit Mountain and members of the public will celebrate the completion of a new 3.4 mile trail loop of the Superior Hiking Trail connecting upper Spirit Mountain area to the campground. The celebration event will take place on Friday, June 1 at 3:30 pm. The completion of this trail is timely as Duluth recognizes "National Trails Day" on Saturday, June 2nd, a national day to connect people to trails and public spaces.
The public is invited to the celebration and can park at the first "round" parking lot located before the Spirit Mountain main chalet off West Skyline Parkway. Look for signs. The parking area is also noted in the attached map with a "P."
William Roche, City of Duluth Parks Manager, and Jaron Cramer with the Superior Hiking Trail Association will make remarks. Due to wet conditions, participants will not be able to hike the new loop. The public is encouraged to attend and learn more about the SHT system and participate in National Trails Day the following day.
This trail extension was funded with St. Louis River Corridor half and half tourism tax dollars and a match from the SHTA.
