At 12:18 the Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 3331 E 1st street. Home owner stated a passing motorist stopped to warn them which prompted an evacuation and quick 911 call. Upon arrival, crews found smoke and fire coming from from roof around the chimney of a two story house. Crews quickly extinguished fire by applying water from outside and then from the attic space.
Initial damage estimates are $10,000.
The Duluth Fire Marsh's office is investigating as to the origin and cause of the fire.
Fire companies from Lakeside, UMD, Woodland and Headquarters Fire Stations responded.
