INCIDENT LOCATION: 901 E. 3rd St.

At 1642 hours today, the Duluth Fire Department responded to report of a possible structure fire at 901 E. 3rd St. Upon arrival, crews encountered a large vacant church with heavy fire showing on two levels - venting to the exterior. Crews were able to quickly make a coordinated entry and knock the fire down, containing it to the front of the structure. Crews remained on scene for up to three hours overhauling hidden areas within the construction. 

The church has not been used in several years. It was confirmed to be unoccupied at the time of the fire. Initial damage estimates are set at $75,000. 

Crews from Headquarters Station, Lincoln Park Station and UMD Fire Station responded. No injuries were reported, and the origin and cause in under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal's office.
