Miller Creek Restoration Starts in Lincoln Park
[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation is commencing creek restoration and rehabilitation of 875 linear feet of Miller Creek which was heavily damaged following the summer flood of 2012. The $480,000 project is funded with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds and will ensure that the creek is able to withstand future weather events. The creek work will commence on August 14 and is expected to be complete by September 15.
The public can expect to see excavators on site, some tree removal, and brush clearing. The creek will be widened and the shoreline stabilized. A stone retaining wall will be repaired and 1500-3000 cubic yards of fill will be removed. New hardy tree varietals will be planted and native vegetation seeded along the creek.
During this project, the southern portion of the park from about West 7th Street to West 3rd Street will be closed to the public. Once completed, crews will be back in the park periodically to conduct final clean up.
