Public Meeting on August 15 to Discuss Ely Peak Equestrian Trail
[Duluth, MN] - Duluth Parks and Recreation is inviting the public to attend the pre-construction meeting for the Ely Peak Equestrian Loop trail. The purpose of the meeting is to inform the public about environmentally sustainable equestrian trail improvements to existing segments of the ski trail and portions of snowmobile trails at Magney-Snively Natural Area. The meeting format will be a brief presentation by staff and consultants followed by an open house to answer questions and review maps of the project area.
The public meeting will take place on:
Tuesday, August 15th
5:30-6:30 pm
Grand Avenue Chalet, 8551 Grand Avenue, Duluth
The planning area includes improvements on a segment of the main loop, Ely Peak Loop, and portions of the snowmobile trail at the Magney-Snively Natural Area. Trail improvements include repairing low points of existing nordic ski trail to a 10’ wide hardened equestrian/ski trail. Other improvements include creation of 18” singletrack equestrian trail around steeper slopes, addition and replacement of culverts and regrading and restoring the trail as required after trail improvements are completed.
The contractor will be operating in Magney-Snively Natural Area on the trails identified above beginning in mid-August. Work is anticipated to be completed prior to snowfall. Trails will not be closed during the project, however trail users are asked to use caution when encountering the project area due to the presence of heavy equipment in operation.
