Miller Creek in Lincoln Park to Undergo Restoration
[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation division is inviting the public to attend an informational meeting for the Miller Creek FEMA Restoration Project. The project scope is to repair and improve sections of the stream banks and surrounding landscape to stabilize the banks and improve the capacity of the channel to handle future large rain events.
The public meeting will take place at the Picnic Shelter in Lincoln Park, 25th Avenue West & 5th Street on July 20th at 6 PM.
Miller Creek, as it flows through Lincoln Park, sustained significant damage to both natural stream banks and to man-made stone channelization structures during the 2012 flood. The FEMA funding needs to be utilized this year and the construction season is limited to the period from July 1 to September 15 because of Miller Creeks’ designation as trout habitat. Construction is expected to begin in late July. The southern segment of the park will be closed to the public during the construction period.
