INCIDENT LOCATION: 501 E 4th St

At 0114 this morning, the Duluth Fire Department responded to report of a possible structure fire at the Twins Bar. Upon arrival fire companies found light to medium smoke throughout the bar area and basement. Crews located a small fire in the basement that had been partially extinguished by an operating sprinkler system. Fire companies confirmed extinguishment, ventilated the smoke from the structure and assisted with water removal in the basement.

The cause of the fire is determined to be failure of an electric fan motor that had been operating in the basement. Significant credit is given to the operation of the automatic sprinkler system which operated as designed and limited the spread of the fire until firefighters could arrive, resulting in reduced property loss and minimal impact to building operations.

Early damage estimates are placed at just $1,000 to $2,000 dollars.
