BY: Assistant Chief Clint Reff

NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire
CASE NO.: 1700003939
INCIDENT DATE: 4/16/2017
INCIDENT TIME: 04:02
INCIDENT LOCATION: 219 E 3rd St

The Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 219 E 3rd St just after 4:00 AM. Upon arrival, crews found a working fire on the 2nd floor of a two-story vacant duplex. Handlines were deployed to both front and back sides of the duplex. The main body of the fire was knocked down from the exterior. A small amount of fire had extended to the attic space via the exterior siding. A hole was cut into the roof to aid with the venting of the fire. This allowed crews to complete the extinguishment of the fire from the interior.

The duplex was vacant and secured at the time of the fire. Primary and secondary searches confirmed the duplex to be vacant. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. 20 firefighters responded to this call and remained on scene for three hours.

Initial damage is estimated to be $35,000.00. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Any further information will be provided by the Duluth Fire Marshal's Office on Monday 4/17/2017.
