INCIDENT LOCATION: 219 E 3rd St
At 01:01, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a duplex fire at 219 E 3rd St. Upon arrival heavy smoke was seen coming from the rear of the first floor duplex. Crews responded to the alley and stretched lines for the fire attack. The fire was quickly knocked down and contained to the first floor. Crews began overhaul and checked for fire extension. They encountered some minor hot spots inside the walls.
One resident was home at the time of the fire and evacuated prior to our arrival. The upstairs unit was vacant at the time. Primary searches confirmed the duplex was void of occupants. No residents are allowed to remain in the residence at this time. 20 firefighters responded to the fire and remained on scene for just over an hour.
Initial damage estimates are listed at $25,000.00 for structure and contents. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. Fire Investigators are determining the cause of the fire, any further information concerning this fire will be released by the Duluth Fire Marshal's Office.
