The Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 217 S 61st Ave W. The first arriving rig reported smoke at the roof line of the two-story single family house. Crews stretched handlines to the rear of the house for an apparent kitchen fire. Fire was extending up the exterior of the house. The fire was quickly knocked down and a check for extension was started.

19 firefighters responded to the fire and remained on scene for approximately two hours. The homeowner was home at the time of the fire. A search of the home verified the residence was unoccupied. Homeowner is unable to stay at the residence at this time.

Initial damage is being estimated at $35,000 for room and contents. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Duluth Fire Marshal's Office. Any further information will be released by that office.
