INCIDENT LOCATION: 23 W Anoka
The Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of a possible structure fire at 23 W Anoka in the Woodland neighborhood. The Assistant Chief and Eleven Engine from Woodland Station arrived to find a smell of burning and no obvious fire on the exterior. We found smoke inside the front door and were met by the occupant who was unable to leave on her own. The Assistant Chief and the Fire Equipment Operator from Eleven Engine removed the occupant via carry. She was moved to a Duluth Police Squad car on scene for warmth. Eleven Engine Captain went to find and contain the fire, and to search for any additional residents. No one else was at home. Fire was extinguished by a team from Woodland and UMD Fire Stations. Additional crews from Duluth Fire Headquarters and Lakeside Station Six responded. Occupant was taken to local hospital by family. A small kitten was located during a secondary search. Damage is estimated at $5000. Cause of fire was declared accidental after investigation.
