The Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 521 N. 48th Ave. West, The Assistant Chief from H.Q. and Two Engine from the Lincoln Park neighborhood were the first on the scene and I reported fire coming out of windows on two sides of the house on the main floor. First due in fire company stretched attack lines and began knocking down the flames, as other fire rigs arrived searches were made on all floors to confirm no one was in the structure. It was later confirmed this house was vacant at the time of the fire. The fire was soon put out and overhaul began to search for hidden fire. Twenty Firefighters were on the scene of this fire with no reported injuries. The Fire Marshal's were called to investigate the fire and it was determined the cause to be heat tape plugged into an extension cord. Initial damage estimates are $50,000 dollars. Any further information will be released by the Duluth Fire Marshals office.
