SUBJECT: Structure Fire at 5021/5023 Tioga St.

INCIDENT LOCATION: 5021/5023 Tioga St.
The Duluth Fire Department responded to a duplex fire at 5021/5023 Tioga St. Upon arrival of #6 engine from the Lakeside fire station, they found a heavy volume of flame from the front of the 5023 side of the duplex and began knocking down the flame with a hose line. A report from #6 Engine that a woman and child from the 5021 side of the duplex escaped unharmed after the woman woke up to crackling sounds from the fire, a report that the 5023 side of the duplex was vacant was quickly confirmed. The main body of the fire was soon knocked down while fire crews found and extinguished many hot spots. Fire crews kept the fire to an enclosed porch area with some extension to the main structure. Fire crews laddered the building and performed searches and confirmed no one inside the duplex. 21 Firefighters were on the fire scene fighting the fire, no injuries were reported. The Fire Marshal is in the process of the fire investigation and the cause is undetermined at this time, damage estimates are $50,000. Any further information will be released by the Fire Marshal.
