SUBJECT: Duluth Fire Chief Selects Shawn Krizaj to be Deputy Fire Chief

[Duluth, MN] – Duluth Fire Chief Dennis Edwards has selected Captain Shawn Krizaj to be his second in command. The Deputy Chief shares some of the administrative, fiscal, emergency management and staffing management responsibilities with the Fire Chief.
“I am very pleased to announce the selection of Shawn Krizaj as the new Deputy Chief of the Duluth Fire Department. Along with Shawn’s excellent leadership skills, he brings 21 years of experience in the fire service with expertise in emergency management and hazardous material/chemical spill incident response. Shawn has risen through the Duluth Fire Department ranks as a Firefighter, Fire Equipment Operator, Fire Captain and most recently Technical Services Coordinator,” said Chief Edwards.
Krizaj has worked for the Duluth Fire Department for over 18 years and has experience in wildland firefighting, has been a captain and was most recently the Technical Services Coordinator managing our State Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team and the City’s Emergency Management Plan. Krizaj comes to the position as a certified Emergency Manager and has had extensive training and experience in Incident Command responsibilities. When not at work, he enjoys time with his wife and two daughters traveling or watching his girls play soccer.
“I feel very proud to be promoted to the rank of Deputy Fire Chief. It is a very exciting time for both the Fire Department and the City of Duluth. I have had numerous conversations with Chief Edwards and I look forward to working as part of his command staff. We share a common vision in how the Department will progress into the future,” said Krizaj.
Krizaj starts in his new position immediately.
