Duluth Parks Fund Neighborhood Grants Award $50,000 to 13 Community Organizations
[Duluth, MN] – The Duluth Parks Commission and City Council recently approved $50,000 in Duluth Parks Fund Neighborhood Grants for 13 community organizations. The City of Duluth Parks Fund Neighborhood Grants are awarded to community organizations that assist with enhancing both the physical and social aspects of City parks. The fund is administered in partnership with the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation and accepts applications twice a year. The next round of applications are due October 1, 2016 with online applications accepted at, http://www.dsacommunityfoundation.com/community-parks-and-recreation-program-1
Priority is given to projects that support one or more of the following key elements of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan:
- Improve the quality of existing parks; especially neighborhood parks;
- Expand the use of City parks and recreation areas;
- Focus on connecting the community through trails and bikeways;
- Have fewer, but higher quality, recreation buildings;
- Enhance stewardship of natural resources;
- Expand partnerships with schools for community recreation and gathering; and
- Increase the use and recognition of volunteers and volunteer groups.
The organizations approved for funding are:

Duluth Eastern Little League - Baggs Baseball Field Rehabilitation $3,800
Duluth Heights Amateur Hockey Association - General Repairs of Rinks and Equipment $5,000
Duluth Superior GLBTAQI Pride Inc. - 2016 Duluth Superior Pride Festival $1,500
Gary New Duluth Development Alliance - Installation of Soccer Field Fence $5,000
Goodwill Industries Vocational Enterprises - Inc., Goodwill/YES! Duluth Summer Employment Program $2,700
Hartley Nature Center - Outdoor Pavilion $5,000
Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory - Hawk Ridge Nature Reserve Forest Management Plan $5,000
Morgan Park Smithville Community Club Inc. - Morgan Park Community Club Chair Refurbishing $1,000
Neighbors of Lower Chester Park - Lower Chester Park Improvements $4,000
Northland Paddlers Alliance Paddle Duluth - Community Paddling Events $5,000
