The Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of smoke coming from a house after a witnessed lightning strike at 312 Sparkman Avenue. The first fire crew arrived and reported smoke coming from the roofs ridgeline. Crews immediately began to attack the fire, a truck company was sent to the roof to ventilate and open up the area where the smoke was coming from, flame started to erupt from the now opened vent hole, this was quickly doused. Interior crews were checking for extension from the fire and a report of a dog possibly inside, the home was vacant at the time of the fire and a dog was not found inside the home. Twenty one firefighters responded to this call and the Fire Department remained on scene for an hour and a half. Initial damage estimate is set at twenty thousand dollars.
