INCIDENT LOCATION: 2625 W 5th St.

At 0722 am on March 28th, 2016, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a duplex fire at 2625 W 5th St. While responding to the incident crews were informed of a person possibly inside one of the units. Upon arrival, fire was visible from the first floor window. Crews stretched handlines to the rear of the house and started fire attack in conjunction with a primary search. The fire was knocked down as crews expanded the search to other levels of the duplex. The search of the duplex revealed no occupants inside the house.

Twenty firefighters responded to the call initially, seven additional firefighters were dispatched for the 2nd alarm. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries and crews remained on scene for just over an hour. The occupant of the duplex was located later in the day away from the residence.

Damage to the duplex is estimated to be $47,000.00. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office and the house has been declared uninhabitable at this time. Any further information will be provided by the Fire Marshal's Office.
