At 1454 pm on Wednesday February 24th, 2016 the Duluth Fire Department responded to an ice rescue on Park Point. Upon arrival of the first Fire Department crew a person was spotted in the water. The victim was being assisted by a private citizen throwing a dog leash out to the her. The patient had slid into the water while trying to retrieve her dog. The victim was standing in four feet of frigid water. Fire department personnel entered the water and grabbed the party with the assistance of the Duluth Police Department and the private citizen. The victim was embraced by fire personnel to preserve her body heat. After removal, the patient was transported by the department's U.T.V. apparatus to the recue vehicle where she could warm up. The victim changed into dry clothes from her nearby vehicle and was not transported to the hospital. The dog was clear of the water upon our arrival. The Duluth Fire Department would like to remind citizens of the ability for ice conditions to change at any time.
